Provide Better Storage Than In Your Garage

While an attached two car garage is a wonderful addition to any home, many people find that their garage becomes a catch all for items that have no other home. In fact, many garages get so packed with other items that there is no room for the vehicles. While you may be able to get away with this during the summer, when winter hits, you are going to want to park those vehicles out of the weather.
One way that you can free up your garage is by building a garden storage shed. Many municipalities allow homeowners to build a small storage shed under one hundred square feet in their back yards or gardens without having to purchase permits. These sheds make a handy place to store all kinds of things.
If you do your own landscaping, you will find it handy to store gardening equipment in the shed. Lawn care equipment including both mowers and a lawn vacuum will last much longer when stored inside and out of the weather. In addition, they are much less likely to be stolen.
It also makes a good place for storing seasonal items during the time they are not being used. Whether you are storing Christmas decorations, home space heaters or window air conditioners, the shed helps to keep these items out of the garage so that there is room for your vehicle.
When you start cleaning out the garage, you may find items that you no longer need. Items such as fitness exercise equipment can often be sold at yard sales to free up even more space in the garage. If you do not find enough for a full blown yard sale, try listing the items on Craigslist or in the classified advertisements of your local newspaper. Get rid of the excess and get some extra cash.
If you are planning to build your own storage shed, consider adding doors to both ends in order to make access to your items that are stored easier. This will allow you to get large items out of one end and smaller ones from the other end. This prevents having to empty the shed to get just one item of equipment or that has been stored in the shed. Storage sheds are a much more economical choice than rental storage units.
Cars that are parked inside a garage last longer and are safer than those that are parked outside. During the summer, the garage protects the finish and upholstery of the vehicle from the damaging rays of the sun. In the winter, the garage keeps you from having to scrape frost and snow off the vehicle.
